Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin is a moving story that will leave you reeling for days. There are no bad guys, no tasks to accomplish, or even a point to it all. It’s a snapshot of two friends, their successes, failures, and tragedies as they age and discovers who they are. Honestly, this coming-of-age book is hard to describe.
Summary
Childhood friends Sam and Sadie are brought back together after an accidental meeting in the subway. Together (with their friend Marx), they set out to make video games and start their own company. Spanning three decades, this book tells a story full of love, arguments, failure, and all the many hardships we all face.
This book won the Book of the Year award with the Book of the Month subscription and Best Fiction book by Goodreads. Obviously, it’s excellent!
Review
Never have I ever read a book where I was not too fond of the characters and loved the book. I think that is what makes it so relatable. Sadie and Sam have a weird friendship full of love, hate, and lack of communication. There were times I wanted to yell at them (like they could hear me) to freaking communicate with eachother. Sam is an ass and Sadie tends to wallow a lot. But the book draws you in and makes you want to keep going.
The writing style makes this book unique. The author uses flashbacks, mentions future events, and even revisits events that you have already read about. Some of you might not be able to finish it because of the way it sometimes goes off-topic. I urge you to keep reading and stick with it, I promise it will all make sense by the end.
Favorite Quotes
“What is a game?” Marx said. “It’s tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. It’s the possibility of infinite rebirth, infinite redemption. The idea that if you keep playing, you could win. No loss is permanent, because nothing is permanent, ever.”
“If you’re always aiming for perfection, you won’t make anything at all.”
“It was never worth worrying about someone you didn’t love. And it wasn’t love if you didn’t worry.”
