This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi is a lot better than I thought it would be and I actually enjoyed it. I didn’t like the Shatter Me series, so my expectations were low.
Summary
Alizeh is the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom, who has been forced to hide as a servant. Kamran is the crown prince and cannot seem to forget the servant girl, that has the potential to destroy his kingdom.
Review
This book reminded me of a Persian Cinderella story, with some forbidden love added in. (Who doesn’t love the forbidden love trope.)
It starts out slow and not much goes on in this book until the end but, it’s the ending that makes me want more!
I can’t help but love Alizeh. She is strong, loving, smart, and vulnerable. I see many strong book characters that are fearless but that is not Alizeh. She pushes through her fear and carries on regardless.
Kamran is super immature at times but can also be very kind to people beneath him. I don’t like him all that much but I’m hoping this character will grow in future books.
The only thing I did not like was that it was hard to follow in the beginning. Setting up the story felt a little awkward and clumsy. Overall, I enjoyed it and will definitely read the next in the series.
