The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany by Lori Nelson Spielman is a great book if you are like me and needed something fun to read!
Summary
Many years ago, the Fontana family was cursed so that no second-born daughter would ever find long-lasting love. Emilia (the main character) thinks the curse is a coincidence and does not care if she ever finds love. Her cousin Lucy thinks the curse is real, and puts herself out there but can never keep a man’s attention.
Their great aunt Poppy claims she will meet the love of her life on the steps of the Ravello Cathedral on her eightieth birthday, breaking the curse forever. Emilia and Lucy travel to Italy with her to break the curse and discover who they truly are.
Review
This book is a good, quick read if you need something to pass the time. I normally HATE contemporary fiction, but overall, it was better than I thought. The character development makes the story great. Emilia and Lucy are super annoying at the beginning of the book. Both of them believe they will never be happy because of this crazy curse. As a result, they tend to be people-pleasers and let their families walk all over them. They learn who they truly are during this trip. I love it when characters change into better versions of themselves.
Poppy was my favorite character! She is the fun-loving aunt that everyone dreams of having. I love how Poppy gives the girls vague advice to nudge them along their journey of self-discovery.
Favorite Quotes
“To me, love is more like a lending library. To keep it, we must continually renew it. Otherwise, we pay a hefty fine.”
“You will find, Emilia, life is not always a circle. More often, it’s a tangled knot of detours and dead ends, false starts, and broken hearts. An exasperating, dizzying maze, impossible to navigate and useless to map.” She squeezes my hand. “But not a single corner nor curve should ever, ever be missed.”
